NFL Overreactions: C.J. Stroud will be better than Deshaun Watson, Buffalo Bills won't make playoffs

Publish date: 2024-06-07

Another NFL week is complete.

Another round of winners, losers, Super Bowl contenders, trashed seasons and Dan Campbell advising Detroit Lions fans to start wearing diapers for his gutsy fourth-down calls.

Here is talkSPORT's inside look at the NFL Week 10 that was.

Warning: Hard truths and instant overreactions follow.

Fact or fiction...

C.J. Stroud will be better than Deshaun Watson

The Houston Texans are the hottest team in the NFL thanks to the rookie quarterback drafted after Bryce Young.

Stroud has been brilliant for the Texans.

Not bad for a QB who supposedly wasn't great at taking tests.

The Texans spent years trying to find a real franchise leader.

They traded up in 2017 to draft Watson, who became a perfect answer before becoming a public relations disaster.

Now Watson is out for the season with a shoulder injury and Stroud keeps winning last-second stunners.

Things change quickly in the NFL.

Stroud and the Texans are a perfect reminder of that.

The Buffalo Bills aren't making the playoffs

If you fire your offensive coordinator after losing to the Denver Broncos on a second last-second field goal, you have issues.

The Bills have serious problems.

Buffalo is running out of time to save its fractured season.

Stefon Diggs' brother is tweeting that Josh Allen's best receiver should get the heck out of Buffalo.

The Bills (5-5) are the NFL's most disappointing team that was supposed to be a Super Bowl contender.

The playoffs are only seven games away.

They will begin with Buffalo watching the 2023 postseason on TV.

The Dallas Cowboys will be better than the Philadelphia Eagles when it counts

Dallas has scored 40, 30, 38, 43 and 49 points this season.

Not bad for the second-best team in the NFC East.

Sure, the Cowboys lost badly to San Francisco in Week 5, then lost to the Eagles a month later.

Yes, Philadelphia and San Francisco are still the teams to beat in the NFC.

But if you can drop 40 points multiple times, you're doing something right.

Don't be shocked if the Cowboys finally climb to the top of their conference when it matters and the Eagles fail to push their way to another Super Bowl.

Bill Belichick and Mac Jones won't be New England Patriots next season

Wasn't Belichick supposed to be fired by now?

The head coach of the Patriots' former dynasty entered Week 11 still employed by New England.

But Jones could be on the bench when the Pats play again and it's obvious that this 2-8 team is already toast in 2023.

The smart move would be for New England to allow Belichick to professionally walk away after Week 18.

There's no way that Jones is playing for the Pats again next season.

Josh Dobbs will make the Minnesota Vikings forget Kirk Cousins

Dobbs is rivaling Stroud as the best story in the NFL.

But only one QB doubles as an aerospace engineer and is 2-0 leading the resurgent Vikings.

Cousins was the good guy for Minnesota but never won like his huge contract required.

Dobbs' story is straight out of Hollywood.

If he leads the Vikings to the playoffs, Cousins will become a distant memory for Minnesota.
