'Shark Tank' Season 14: Robert Herjavec calls Copy Keyboard 'crap' as founder walks away with no off

Publish date: 2024-06-03

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Larry Tesler pioneered the copy-and-paste feature in 1974, and it has made millions of people's lives simpler. Copy Keyboard, on the other hand, takes things to the next level; the compact keyboard with only two keys claims to make copying and pasting even easier. Scotty Trujillo's product has gone viral on TikTok, and he was just featured on 'Shark Tank.' Unfortunately, he was unable to secure a deal.

On the Friday night episode of Season 14 of 'Shark Tank,' entrepreneur Scotty stepped in, hoping to get one of the Sharks on board for his firm. However, not only did he fail to impress the sharks, so much as Shark Robert Herjavec dubbed the product 'crap'.

Scotty stepped into the Tank looking to sell a quarter of his company for $40,000. Scotty spent a lot of time pressing the classic CTRL+C and CTRL+V keyboard sequence when working in e-commerce. He recognized that copying and pasting computer data is a tedious component of many people's occupations these days. This prompted him to design a plug-and-play macro pad with only two keys: copy and paste. There have been memes of a similar notion on the Internet prior to this. Many people expressed genuine interest, and the idea came to life. Scotty first introduced Copy Keyboard to the world in 2021 through a TikTok video, which quickly went viral. The platform already has over 20 million views, and the creator began fulfilling orders in late 2021.

Scotty stated that he requires funds to grow his inventory. When he receives an order, he programs, packs, and sends it from his kitchen. He needs Sharks' contribution to reducing the product's cost from $9.14 to $6.15. He charges $19.99 for the normal USP version and $24.99 for the LED version. His current revenues are $42,209, despite the fact that they have only been in business for less than a year. He only had 200 units ready, which sold extremely quickly. Scotty moved to pre-sales to keep his customers happy, but his orders dropped dramatically.

When Shark Kevin O'Leary questioned if his invention was patented, he responded no, which peeved the Shark. He believes he can grow bigger, quicker, and stronger than anybody else, and that this is how he intends to outgrow his competition. Shark Mark Cuban is the first to step out, believing that anybody can master the concept and outperform Scotty. Shark Lori Greiner stated that she does not believe this is the proper type of business for her, thus she is passing as well. Shark Daymond John claims he is an ardent phone user and so can not relate to Scotty's product, so he is also out. Kevin is the next to go.

When it came to Shark Robert Herjavec, he said he finds Scotty 'captivating' but his product is 'crap'. Even if he wants to invest in the firm in some way, he chooses not to do so for the time being.

'Shark Tank' Season 14 airs every Friday at 8/7c on ABC. Missed an episode? Been wanting to catch up? Episodes can also be viewed the next day on demand and on Hulu. Not just that, you can also watch old seasons and episodes on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes.
