'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' Season 2 Episode 4 Review: The hunter becomes the hunted in 'Dressed to Kil
This review contains spoilers for 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' Season 2 Episode 4: 'Dressed to Kill'
If episodes 1 and 2 took their time in unravelling the gripping story, episodes 3 and 4 are pacy affairs. There isn't a lot of small talk as each character comes in with a task at hand and is hellbent on completing it.
On the investigative front, Jack Ryan (John Krasinski) jets off to the UK after his findings from the Venezuelan jungle. In hot pursuit is Tom Wlaschiha's Max Schenkel who believes Jack is an imminent threat who also has Harry's (Noomi Rapace) support.
Jim Greer (Wendell Pierce) digs deep into Gloria Bonalde's (Cristina Umaña) past and starts connecting the dots. Meanwhile, President Nicholas Reyes (Jordi Molla) subtly threatens her to back off from participating in the elections. Marcus (Jovan Adepo) has his team searching for him in the jungle.
The focus, however, is on Ryan and Schenkel as they are both evenly matched—in being topnotch analysts and in combat. The final minutes of the episode give the audience a rooftop parkour sequence and Schenkel realizes that Ryan is relentless and intent on bringing him down.
Building up to this action sequence is the trail that both characters follow which eventually sees them cross paths again. Much of the screentime is taken by these two and, in the end, the reason is justified.
'Dressed to Kill' too starts tying up loose ends and, much like episode 3, focusses on Reyes' persona and his insecurity to Bonalde's rising popularity.
However, Greer coming into the picture to help the politician is sure to rile up the wily President and it's only a matter of time before he locks Greer in his crosshairs.
The title of each episode has a strong connection to the plot and this chapter is probably named 'Dressed to Kill' owing to Schenkel's entry into the UK. He disguises himself as a woman and gets past the security at the airport.
As far as character performances go, Mike November (Michael Kelly) is convincing as the CIA Chief of Station (CoS) in Venezuela who has a hard time getting Ryan to buckle down while Rapace's Harry still has her reasons to capture Schenkel. She creates an air of mystery around her leading us to believe there's more to her than meets the eye.
As far as 'Dressed to Kill' goes, the episode is a classic tale of the hunter coming dangerously close to being hunted.
'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' Season 2 is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
